It is always a pleasure to visit a relatively undiscovered region but a double joy to find a very special place, as it was when I recently visited Masseria Torre Coccaro in Puglia.
This delightful fortified farmhouse has been lovingly restored by its owner Vittorio Muolo to retain all its rustic features but to incorporate every modern comfort.
The Masseria Torre Coccaro has 39 rooms, all with flagstone floors, antique furnishings and are enhanced by beautiful linens and large modern bathrooms, most with terraces or balconies. Some Junior Suite and Junior Deluxe have stone fireplaces.
Dining in the indoor restaurant, once the former stables, or on the covered terrace you will taste the most delicious regional dishes with most of the produce coming from the farm. The sweetest of vegetables, their own olive oil, home-cured hams and salamis and the freshest of fish caught by the hotels own fisherman. All complimented by fine local wines. There is also a fish restaurant at the beach club.
At Masseria Torre Coccaro they also run cookery classes, available with 48 hours notice. There is a private beach to which the hotel offers a shuttle service in the summer months and also a 40 ft yacht if you fancy exploring the Adriatic coastline. Our Coccaro Golf Course 9 holes Executive is only 300 meters away and an 18 hole golf course is just one kilometer away.
The small Aveda spa is the most atmospheric one I have seen. Housed within limestone caves it offers a very wide range of treatments carried out by therapists with many years’ experience. There is also a small hydro-massage pool. Upon entering the spa you will feel instantly relaxed – even before your treatment. Don’t forget to try the special Torre Coccaro hair treatment using wild capers and their own olive oil.
