A personal favourite of mine, The Sandpiper is the sort of hotel that people don’t usually reveal to their friends! Owned by the O’Hara family this member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, attracts returning guests year after year who wouldn’t consider anywhere else on Barbados for their holiday pampering.
It is The Sandpiper’s size (only 48 rooms) and attention to detail that makes it so popular and ensures such an exclusive yet welcoming atmosphere.
All rooms are very generous in size and superbly appointed. In particular, the one and two bedroom, two-bathroom suites have separate sitting rooms and expansive terraces plus full kitchens. Pickled pine, wicker furniture, locally hand-made tiles and scatter rugs give the rooms a true Caribbean feel.
The Sandpiper continues to lead the market in understated luxury in Barbados and The Tree Top Suites which feature their own plunge pool, outstanding interior design and beachfront location are magnificent. The Sandpiper’s open sided restaurant is recognised as one of Barbados’ finest. The menu changes daily to make the most of the wonderful fresh fish and other local ingredients. Lunch is served informally at the beach bar each day, while complimentary fresh fruit sorbets are served to guests on the beach each morning.
Leisure facilities include complimentary water sports (sailing, waterskiing, fun rides and snorkelling), two floodlit tennis courts, a fitness centre and two nearby golf courses. Complimentary tennis lessons with a resident pro are offered daily between 4 and 6 pm.
Right in the heart of the island’s famous Platinum Coast, The Sandpiper’s gardens lead down to a superb white sand beach. The secret of The Sandpiper’s success lies in its staff who all have the instinctive gift of making you feel very special. Complimentary Wi-fi connectivity is offered at The Sandpiper.
The Sandpiper’s sister property Coral Reef has a spa offering tropical treatments in four individual treatment rooms and one outdoor couples pavilion, and guests at The Sandpiper can of course use this new facility.
Children are not permitted between 15 January and 15 March 2012. The Sandpiper will close between 11 August and 10 October 2012.
